Not many people celebrate their 105th birthday, but Haywood County’s Bertie Wilde turns 105 on February 26th.
Wilde is the widow of a World War I veteran who served in the cavalry.
She has an extensive family including 14 grandchildren.
Sunday afternoon, she was surrounded by family at Silver Bluff Village in Canton, many coming from big distances to wish her a happy 105th.
Of course there was a cake and plenty of food. She received recognition from county commissioners and a proclamation from State Representative Michele Presnell congratulating her on her long and full life.
Her daughter, Janice Liner, says Bertie is known for reciting poems, and singing little songs including one about her favorite soft drink, Dr. Pepper.
