Macon County Fatal Fire
Updated: Wednesday, April 10 2013, 08:00 AM EDT
A house fire in Macon County has left one person dead. Fire crews responded shortly after 4 p.m. Monday afternoon to the house on Calico Drive.
Rescue crews arrived to heavy smoke and two family members outside. But one family member was inside. They found him within minutes on the second floor, but he had already passed away.
The Macon County Sheriff’s Office identifies the victim as 36-year-old Aaron Crawford. Preliminary indications show he died from smoke inhalation.
The Sheriff’s Office and SBI are looking into the cause of the fire, but investigators don't think this fire is related to recent arsons in abandoned houses in Franklin. At this point, officials believe it was likely an electrical fire that was possibly caused by an appliance.
The two family members who made it out of the house escaped serious injury. The Red Cross has been on hand to help them out. According to Sheriff Robbie Holland, Crawford’s house was jammed full of items that may have hindered his ability to escape.
