A soldier surprised his family members with a tearful reunion Friday night. Staff Sergeant Michael Sweeney came to Ridgecrest Lifeway Conference Center to greet his children. He's returned home after being stationed in Kuwait for more than a year. Since 9-11, Sweeney has been deployed four times. Friday's homecoming was extra special because his family needs him more than ever. Sweeney's daughter just gave birth to her first child but something went wrong and last week the baby had to go back to the hospital. Then, his stepson was in a bad motorcycle accident. Sweeney's grandson and stepson are going to be O.K. but their recoveries are not going to be easy. Julie Sweeney says she is glad her husband is finally home. She tells News 13 he'll be able to lend a helping hand and spend more time with his family.
