With President Obama expected in town Wednesday, the local band that marched in Washington, D.C. for his inauguration, was celebrating.
The UNC Asheville chorus serenaded the Asheville High School Band at Kimmel Arena Tuesday evening.
It was a tribute from the older kids - and the university - thanking the high schoolers for helping put Asheville on the map, and congratulating them for a standout year.
The highlight of which, was being named "Grand Champion" of the inaugural festivities one month ago.
"I've rarely see a high school group work so hard," said UNCA Choir Director Melodie Galloway, who also has two daughters in the band. "They were marching day after day after day, after receiving the invitation ... and they were outside in very cold temperatures day after day after day."
The group was not only the standout 'Grand Champion' at the inauguration, but Galloway says, they were also the the smallest band in the parade, with at least 100 fewer members than the other groups.
