Worlds Cross Paths On Earth Day

Updated: Monday, April 22 2013, 10:46 PM EDT

US Cellular volunteers say Earth Day is one of the best days of the year.

About a dozen workers headed to Emma Elementary School's Family Resource Center.

"It's just a beautification project. We think it's giving back to the community," says volunteer Page Porter.

She and her colleagues worked on the community garden at the center today.

"The families that come to the community center can plant their vegetables and fruits," Porter says.

Meanwhile, teacher Jamie Allbach picked up trash along the nature trail just a few feet away.

"Even at a young age, we could all learn that we could reduce reuse and recycle to conserve what we have on earth," explains Allbach.

Allbach says it's encouraging to see how excited her students were about the cleanup effort.

And for US Cellular volunteers, it's a great chance to escape the office and do something good for the community.

Two worlds crossing paths. Both, doing a world of good.
