A dying man gets his wish... the mountain he owned for so long will be preserved for its beauty and natural resources.

Christmas tree farmer Dale Shepherd owned most of Pond Mountain, near the Virginia state line, until he passed away in 2006. He left the mountain to two of his longtime employees, and on his deathbed, advised them to sell it, possibly to a conservation group.
