You can enjoy fresh fruits, veggies and flowers roadside at Flying Cloud Farm in Fairview. The Perkinson family is in the process of building a larger roadside stand, and supplies 3 tailgate markets in Asheville.

Annie Louise and Isiah Perkinson are raising their two young daughters on the farm. The family put Flying Cloud into a conservation easement, with the help of Annie's brother William Hamilton, who is the Farmland Program Director with the Southern Applachian Highlands Conservancy.

Hamilton says the tax breaks will benefit more than just his family members. He cites studies, showing it's cheaper for local governments to manage farmland than developed areas, therefore keeping taxes down for all in the county.
