Big night in prep sports. In 3A, Enka playing a first round home playoff baseball game against Northwest Cabarrus. Unfortunately the home game was played at East Henderson Friday night. Northwest Cabarrus couldn't play a day game because of exams for some of its players, and Enka doesn't have lights so the game had to be moved to East Henderson.
The visiting Trojans came back from a 1-0 deficit and pounded Jets pitching, taking a 14-1 win. The game was called after 6 innings.
In 2A, Owen at home scored two in the first then held on to edge visiting Mitchell 4-3 to advance.
In soccer Roberson advances to the third round of the 3A playoffs with a decisive 8-0 win over visiting Burns.
Megan Gilmore scored three goals and had three assists in the win. The 25-0 Rams record their 23rd shutout which ties a state record.
The Asheville Trailblazers move to the championship game in the National Home School Tournament in Kansas City.
The Trailblazers beat Kansas East in the quarterfinals 7-1 with Jorday Woody and Alex Coffey scoring two goals apiece.The Trailblazers then won the semifinal contest against Tulsa 2-1 with both goals coming from Woody.
The championship game set for Saturday at 2pm.
The Asheville Tourists move to within a half game of first in the South Atlantic League's Southern Division.
The Tourists pounded first place Charleston 9-3 behind Brian Rike's home run and 4 rbi.
If the Tourists win the series finale Saturday night at McCormick Field they will move into first place.
