For the first time in 48 years Forest City has a baseball team. The Forest City Owls of the Coastal Plain League, a summer wooden bat league for college players debuted Thursday night. The last time a summer team played out of Forest City was 1960, the original Forest City Owls of the Western Carolina and Tar Heel Leagues.
The man who helped make the ballpark a reality, Forest City native and NFL's Houston Texans owner, Bob McNair on hand to throw out the first ball. The field named after him--McNair Field.
A capacity crowd saw the home team win their debut game, 4-2 over visiting Gastonia Grizzlies.
