Prep football unofficially started in the mountains Friday with some football jamborees, including the Border Bash in Waynesville. Pisgah and Tuscola played host to three teams from Tennessee and Hickory.
We continue our previews with a look at the Cherokee Braves. Scooter McCoy's team coming off back to back Smoky Mountain Conference titles. Last year the Braves went 8-4 with a veteran team, but they lost 19 seniors from that successful squad ,including one of the school's best ever players, Langston Wood.
Coach McCoy says his team is changing offenses, with more of a spread look and a runningback by committee approach. He feels Cherokee can have another solid season, if the injury bug doesn't hit. McCoy thinks his club's winning tradition is an intangible which can help the Braves overcome a lot of possible obstacles during the season.Border Bash, Cherokee Preview (08-15-08)
