Dental Spa Closes (07/21/08)

A local dentist who closed her upscale dental spa 2 weeks ago and entered a hospital, could face legal action when she gets out of an extended stay. Arrowhead Dental Lab tells News 13 they will pursue any legal action and recourse required to get what they are owed by Dr. Kathryn Philpott-Hill. The Utah-based company says Dr. Philpott-Hill owes them $13,000. A separate dental lab in Illinois says Philpott-Hill owes them more than $13,000.
An internet search of Philpott-Hill that she has bid at Barbra Streisand auctions across the country. One article on the Associated Press reveals that she once offered $23,000 for a shirt Streisand wore on The Judy Garland show. Philpott-Hill also supported the arts locally as a 2007 Collector's Circle member of the Asheville Art Museum, and a member of the advisory board for the Asheville Film Festival.
Now former patients say they want to know when they will receive a refund for services paid to Dr. Philpott-Hill up front that were never rendered.
Philpott-Hill's assistants closed Bouche Dental Spa on June 7th, and a deed shows that three days later she sold half of her $2.35 million home to the woman she lived with. That home is no longer in her name.
News 13 contacted several law enforcement agencies, including the Asheville Police and the attorney general's office. They say Philpott-Hill's practice is not under investigation because no one has filed a formal complaint.
