Congressman Heath Shuler sees the massive rockslide on I-40 for himself.
He toured the site with the Department of Transportation Friday morning.
After seeing the nearly 500,000 tons of rock in person he said pictures don't do it justice.
The D.O.T. says as long as it's safe, it will begin a lot of the big work next week, such as blasting off the middle section of rock.
It now estimates cleanup will cost between $8 and $10 million.
"Yesterday the entire delegation with the House members and Senators in North Carolina and Tennessee signed a letter requesting the Federal Highway Commission be able to give assistance and the funding to expedite the monies to be able to clean this project up," said Representative Shuler.
The D.O.T. says four months to clean up the mess is just a rough guess.
