Man Killed Over $4.25
One resident of a McDowell County assisted living home is dead, another is behind bars charged with killing him.
Investigators say a fight broke out between 43 year old Kenneth Hayward and 66 year old Walter Davis on Monday at Cedarbrook Residential Center in Nebo.
Detectives say the fight started over the amount of $4.25 cents that one man owed the other.
They say Davis was hurt so badly that he was sent to Mission Hospital.
Investigators say Davis appeared to be recovering at first, but took a turn for the worse. He died Thursday afternoon.
Hayward is now charged with murder. The District Attorney is expected to consult with the grand jury on that charge.
Cedarbrook Residential Center did not want to make a comment.
According to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, it is an 80 bed adult care home. The facility had the highest rating available during their last inspection in May.
