One person is dead following an accident on Merrimon Avenue in Asheville.

Police say the crash involving a heating oil truck and two cars happened just after 3pm near Beaver Lake.

One person was killed, but there's no word on the condition of the other drivers and passengers.

The accident back up traffic in the area, with the southbound lanes of Merrimon closed, and northbound traffic getting through slowly. Authorities expected the delays to last through rush hour.
