Arson investigators say someone set the fire that destroyed an historic barn at the Claxton Farm near Weaverville.
The 100-year-old tobacco barn had become a popular place for weddings, reunions, and other events.
Arson investigators say they have evidence someone broke into the building and took several items before setting it on fire.
Some of those items were found on the property.
Family members say preparation for the events had become a family business.
People who were married at the barn say they're heartbroken by the fire.
Porter and Martha Ann Claxton say they will build something on the site to carry on the public use of the scenic site.
