The NC Highway Patrol says many drivers are still going around the "Road Closed" barriers on I-40, and GPS units may be partly to blame.
The problem, according to troopers, is that GPS units still show the interstate is open, even though a massive rockslide has shut it down for several months. And some drivers are ignoring the barriers and driving through to the rockslide.
Troopers urge drivers to pay attention to the signage along I-40, and use the detours. Drivers who do not obey the warnings will be ticketed and fined.
