A local soldier who now lives in Canton was once stationed at Fort Hood.
Corporal Justin Tucker says he still has friends on the base.
One of them sent him a panicked message yesterday, and that's how he learned about the mass shooting.
Tucker says he's worried for his friends at Fort Hood he still hasn't heard from.
He won't know they're safe until authorities release the identities of the victims.
Tucker is also angry and in disbelief. He says he is struggling to make sense of the act of violence, and doesn't understand how someone could open fire on their fellow soldiers.
Still, he says it won't change the way he feels about the military.
When Tucker is called back to duty in a few months, he says he'll be ready.
