A mountain man known as the "Wild Man of the Smokies" has died in Haywood County. Arley Phillips died last week from a heart attack and exposure. He was 77. Phillips lived in a remote cabin with no modern conveniences, choosing instead to live close to nature. Family members say he roamed the Smokies on foot, covering miles, lived off the land and rejected everyday conveniences.
