Dead Body Found

A dead body is found at the bottom of a 30 foot retaining wall in downtown Asheville. Asheville police and Fire and Rescue crews are on the scene retrieving the body by scaling down the wall. According to police, one homeless witness claims he saw the victim drinking alcohol last night and sitting on the railing at the top of the retaining wall. Early this evening, someone discovered the person at the bottom of the wall. The incident occurred on South Market Street extension near Hilliard Street, just across from the Orange Peel. Police are treating this as a suspicious death, and will wait on the medical examiner's report to determine whether it was an accident, or whether there may have been criminal activity involved. Police say the victim is a white male, but they do not know his name at this time. The death occurred in an area that is known as a homeless camp. News 13 continues to follow this story and will update you as we learn more.
