Average drivers aren't the only ones feeling the pinch of rising gas prices. School systems are facing tough times too.
In Buncombe County alone, the cost of diesel fuel rose $1.50 since the beginning of the school year. It's currently $3.75 a gallon.
That's a cost of about $9,000 per day to run the entire fleet. Thankfully, the district received money from the state to help finish out the school year.
Meanwhile, school officials will be keeping a close watch on pump prices throughout the summer. They're hoping the state can come up with another supplement for next year.
