A state computer crash blocks jobless workers from filing for unemployment benefits. And attempts to reach Employment Security Commission offices result in jammed phone lines.
The state website is important for unemployed workers because they must file a weekly certification in order to receive their unemployment checks. If the state ESC website goes down, so do their chances of getting that weekly check on time. And those jammed phone lines, add to the problems.
The website was back up and running by late Monday afternoon, but it's running slow, with so many people attempting to use it.
If unemployed workers have to wait a day to file their certification, they may also have to wait an extra day to receive their unemployment check.
