Rape And Murder Saga Of Brevard Teen Finally Ends
A 28 year long rape and murder saga of a Brevard teen finally ended Wednesday afternoon inside a Transylvania County courtroom.
Stanley Sanders pled guilty to the 1981 kidnapping of Jackie Lee. He was sentenced to life in prison. Wednesday's plea means that Sanders can no longer appeal his original death sentence in the case. Those appeals kept this case going for almost 30 years.
In 1982, Sanders was convicted of Jackie's rape and murder. He beat the Brevard High School senior with a fence post, shot her and left her body in a field. Jackie's family was in the courtroom on Wednesday for this final sentencing. They would have liked to seen Sanders get the death penalty, but they wanted closure and were satisfied with the outcome.
Sanders is currently serving a life sentence for the 17-year-old's murder. He will serve his time at Central Prison in Raleigh.
