Two horrible hurricanes hit the mountains five years ago causing unbelievable flooding. On September 16th, 2004, Ivan pummled the area just nine days after Frances leaving Biltmore Village under water. Most business owners say they can't believe it's already the fifth anniversary, but they did learn from the disaster. They have plans in place that include open lines of communication, measures to save their merchandise and ways to get sand bags if needed. Owners say they have learned to rely on their neighbors and feel better prepared if another storm were to hit.
