A new computing center in downtown Asheville promises to help rescue workers save lives.
City officials and UNC-Asheville leaders opened RENCI, The Rennaisance Computing Institute at the Grove Park Arcade building.
It features a dazzling array of video technology, aimed at providing information for decision-makers, researchers and students.
One application is the combination of weather data, rainfall amounts and stream level information.
Emergency workers can use the data to predict which neighborhoods will flood, and which should be evacuated.
