The News 13 Prep Player of the week in football is Roberson junior quarterback Chris Barnwell. He rushed for 244 yards.


Five area prep teams make this week's NCPreps.com poll. Swain, Murphy, Robbinsville, Franklin and Asheville make the polls.


Western Carolina quarterback Troy Mitchell named Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week. He threw for 374 yards in the Cats hard luck loss at South Florida in the season opener.


The Asheville Tourists start the playoffs Wednesday. The Tourists, the Southern Division champs, host first half champs Savannah. Game one of the best of 3 series starts at 7:05. The series goes to Savannah for game 2 and 3 if necessary.
