Canton Man Finds Prized Military Treasure

Staff Sergeant Bret Newmyer, who's stationed at Fort Bragg, can't believe the kindness of a stranger from Canton.

"I feel like I have a friend for the rest of life," says Newmyer. In late December, he lost a prized military ring while playing in the snow with his little boy at the "welcome center" near the Tennessee line.

Danny Buckner of Canton's son works at the center. Buckner took it upon himself to find that ring with the help of his trusty metal detector.

"That's a feeling I can't even explain," said Buckner, who mailed the ring to the Staff Sergeant. Newmyer says the ring was a symbol of sacrifice and pride. After 9-11, he committed himself to serving America.

Because of the military link, Buckner says the find was emotional. He received words of thanks from Newmyer and a Wal-Mart gift card.

"I said finding your ring is reward enough for me," explains Buckner,
'cause you're doing a lot for me right now."

The strangers say they're forever linked by the ring that was lost, and thankfully, now found.
