Tree Kills Marion Driver
An unusual accident kills a man on a McDowell County road. Marion police say heavy rains caused a tree to fall into traffic on Main Street. It landed on two vehicles killing one driver and injuring another.
The accident happened just before 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Main Street and Logan Street. Marion police say the continuous rainfall caused this large tree to fall from an embankment. It would end up hitting two cars traveling on main street. Investigators say the driver of one of those vehicles was killed. His car ended up crashing down the street in some bushes near the Bi-Lo grocery story. The other driver was not injured.
The identity of the driver has not been released. Officials are still working to notify the family.
