Local Athletes Playing In BCS Championship
One of the most highly anticipated college football games gives local high schools a source of pride. Jeoffrey Pagan of the University of Alabama and Ben Councell of Notre Dame will represent the mountains when they take the field for the BCS championship Monday night.
In 2008, Pagan and Councell played together on an undefeated junior varsity football team at A.C. Reynolds. Defensive lineman Pagan eventually transferred to Asheville High School. Councell is now a linebacker at Notre Dame.
Their former coaches at A.C. Reynolds say they were a remarkable pair with amazing work ethic.
