Plan for $90 million Equestrian Center
It's set to have a hotel, campsites, a fitness center, and ampitheater, heliport, winery convention center and now an equestrian center.
White Oak Plantation is a $90 million proposed development in Polk County's Green Creek Township. A master plan was presented in front of county officials Thursday night, and the 1,000 acre property being developed by Tryon Equestrian Properties for the project is now being reviewed for a zoning change, that would enable the project to proceed.
The development has been in the works since 2008, but plans for the equestrian center were just recently added.
"There's a group of equestrian people, I believe it's dressage, that moves from New York to Florida and then they go to Europe," says Polk County Planner Cathy Ruth. "What they're hoping is that instead of going to Europe is they come here."
Polk County is already branded as an equestrian destination but the new facility - capable of hosting a varierty of larger riding events that local facilities can accomodate now - could potentially put the area on the equestrian map worldwide.
