Boulder Blocks US-19 West
Persistent rain loosened a boulder the size of a small house, dropping it on a mountain highway. Both lanes of US-19 West near Coxes Creek Rd in Yancey County are closed.
The rock was loosened from below a home and knocking power out as it fell. Officials say the boulder broke in three large parts.
The NCDOT hopes to have US-19 West reopened by Friday morning.
