French Broad River Flooding
A steady rainfall that began Monday has pushed creeks and rivers out of their banks and forced emergency workers to close nine roads in two counties.
Early this morning highway crews blocked Butler Bridge Road with the familiar yellow and orange signs at low spots near Mills River.
They also blocked Warlick, Old Fanning Brdige, Howard Gap, Balfour, and Jeffress roads because of the high water there.
In Transylvania County, emergency workers and the DOT closed sections of Cascade Lake, Island Ford, and Barkley roads, along with a stretch of Old Hendersonville Highway at Merrill Road.
Sheriff's deputies say most of these barricades involve short detours that take less than 15 minutes or less and people should take those detours to avoid a tragedy.
In Henderson County, two cars had to pulled out of a flooded spot on Howard Gap Road, no one injured in those incidents.
Deputies say drivers who ignore the barricades and drive around them could receive citations.
