Truck Crashes Into Building

Repairs are under way at the Henderson County Health Department building after investigators say a local man deliberately drove his truck through the front door.

Jorge Perez faces several charges including injury to real property and resisting an officer. The Henderson County Sheriff's Office says Perez had gotten into an argument with his wife late Monday afternoon. Officers responded to his home but quickly learned he may have had other intentions.

Captain Frank Stout says, “Our officers were actually at his home looking for him and while they were there we obtained some information that he was possibly enroute to the Department of Social Services to try to make entry to the building after hours and gain access to a child.”

Stout says the DSS entrance has barriers. The Health Department side does not. Police arrived to find Perez’s pick-up truck smashed through the doors causing $3,000 in damage. Stout says barriers will be installed now at the Health Department entrance. No one was injured.

Perez was immediately taken into custody. He remains in jail under $17,000 bond.
