Ice Takes Out Trees, Power Lines

The ice storm that swept through parts of Western North Carolina this morning has emergency crews dealing with toppled trees and power outages.
The freezing rain coated tree limbs and power lines with ice.
In some cases the weight of that ice was too much, snapping branches and lines.
A check with Progress and Duke Energy shows about 9,000 people without power across our area.
Christopher Reed, lost power, "it's pretty bad. There's power out, I don't have power, telephone poles across the roads, trees falling down. It's pretty bad."
The ice also caused some slick road conditions early on this morning but troopers say there were no major accidents.
Most school systems in the area started at least a couple hours late as a precaution.
