Madison Murder Suspect's Family Speaks

Relatives of a Madison County mother accused of killing her child say she’s innocent.

Brandi Cochran is charged with murder in the death of 6-month-old Kali last week at her home in Hot Springs. Brandi told News 13 Monday she didn’t kill her baby. 

However, deputies say she confessed that she shook the child. A preliminary autopsy report shows the child died of a brain hematoma that usually follows a head injury.

Martha Swaney says she’s struggling to understand how her niece could be charged with murder after Brandi was so kind to the family’s kids. Kali died at the East Tennesee Children’s Hospital in Knoxville. Her body was taken to the North Carolina Medical Examiner’s Office in Winston-Salem.

A full autopsy report could take several weeks to complete.
