Accident Shuts Down I-26 in Polk County
UPDATE (7:25 P.M.) Officials say both lanes of I-26 West at Exit 59 are back open. Congestion remains, so expect delays.
UPDATE (6:40 PM): The right lane is back open at Exit 59 to Saluda. The left lane remains closed. Officials tell News 13 the big rig was carrying water. It blew a tire, causing the driver to hit the overpass and overturn.
All westbound lanes are shut down on I-26 in Polk County, at the Saluda exit (exit 59).
Crews are on scene of an overturned 18-wheeler with a fuel spill. News 13 is told one person was trapped during the accident. E.M.S crews have transported at least one person to Pardee Hospital.
Traffic is being detoured at exit 59 onto Highway 176 through Saluda. Avoid the area if you can.
The NCDOT says the lanes are expected to reopen by 9 p.m. Tuesday night.
