Greening the Parkway
The Blue Ridge Parkway is greener than ever this year.
Officials say they are working to reduce petroleum use. Today, they're celebrating those greener operations.
New, fuel-efficient tractor mowers and generators have been added and the Land of Sky Clean Vehicles Operations has helped to add as many as eight hybrid and propane vehicles.
Officials believe that will save 4,000 gallons of fuel a year.
Mark Woods, Parkway Superintendent, "we have had many visitors who are here, who enjoy the scenery and the mountains and they are gonna our staff out in the park operating this equipment and I do believe it will make a difference over time."
The Parkway already operates propane heating systems, fork lifts and some fuel-efficient pickup trucks.
