Old Fort Mountain Music Ends
Friday night is the last show for a 27 year bluegrass tradition in Old Fort.
The Old Fort Mountain Music group is shutting down after they couldn't reach a compromise with town Alderman who want to rent the Rockett building out on additional days. The Music group pays $300 a month to use the space every Friday night.
The Town Mayor tells News 13 he and other city leaders have tried to convince Mountain Music organizers to work with them on trying to increase revenue for the building which is owned by the town. But the Mayor told News 13 the group organizers have refused to consider sharing the building with other groups.
Barbara Willis who has volunteered for Mountain Music for 25 years says the organization has spent $19,000 to upgrade and improve the building as well as $42,000 in rent over 27 years. Their final concert will be Friday at 7pm.
