Mountain Dance & Folk Festival
The history of our mountains comes to life in the form or music and dancing.
The 87th Annual Mountain Dance & Folk Festival takes the stage at the Diana Wortham Theatre tonight.
It is the longest running folk festival in the country and it is where clogging got its start, decades ago.
This morning members of the Cole Mountain Cloggers gave us a preview of the rich heritage they are keeping alive.
That heritage includes bluegrass and mountain string bands, ballad singers, big circle mountain dancers and cloggers.
Jeff Atkins, Folk Heritage Committee, "the Mountain Dance and Folk Festival is such an epitome of something that took place so long ago but still continues on, but still continues to get fresh."
The Mountain Dance and Folk Festival is tonight, Friday and Saturday. Introductions start at 6:50pm, with the performances at 7pm, nightly.
