Film Crew Shooting Downtown Asheville Soon
"Untitled Armored Car Project" rolls into Downtown Asheville for filming next week, which will impact a number of city streets.
"Sounds like it will interfere with traffic and interfere with normal activities around Pack Square," says Idoia Gkikas of Asheville, who still thinks it will be an exciting flurry of filming.
The movie starring Owen Wilson, Zach Galifianakis, and Kristen Wiig is about the Loomis Fargo Heist in Charlotte.
A publicist tells News 13 Galifianakis and Wiig will be part of the downtown shoots that will also feature an armored vehicle.
The outdoor special event permit filed with the city gives us a taste of what's expected. "Filming driving scenes for movie," reads the permit filed with the city. "Involves specially rigged camera/car platform that will tow picture vehicle."
"There is a camera crane that will be mounted to the camera that will swing out to the left or right of vehicles to film side angles of actors 'driving,'" the permit reads.
On Wednesday there will be a closure along North and South Pack Square and between Broadway and Market is among the biggest areas to be closed from 6am to 3pm.
There will also be shooting driving scenes shot between 11am and 4pm along Broadway from Campus to Catawba. The plans include a camera truck with a towed car.
Along with Wednesday, there will be closures in other downtown spots on Tuesday.
Other impacted areas include Broadway from College to Eagle (6am-9pm); Patton from Lexington to Broadway; North and South Pack Square from Broadway to Market.
Other closures Tuesday: Court Plaza/City-County Parking Lot (8am-2pm); College from Broadway to Haywood (10am-5pm); Lexington from Walnut to Patton (10am-5pm).
