A North Buncombe graduate is taking his love for soccer, and spreading it throughout the community. Nineteen year-old Nate Torbett gave out 50 soccer balls Friday, to kids who might not otherwise have one. He put up money from his own pocket and received donations from the community to make it possible.
Nate hopes to expand this effort beyond Western North Carolina. "The idea is to go other places. I was in Virginia Beach last week, I wanna go back there, give them out there. My mom's the head coach at East Carolina, I wanna go to Greenville and give them out. Go to Rock Hill where I finished my high school career and give them out. So I want to keep it going, all over the place really," he says.
Nate also worked with his father's local non-profit Recreation Experiences. Next year Nate is heading to Cape Fear Community College, where of course he will play soccer.
