Man Killed In Storm Laid To Rest
Severe storms took the life of a man in Cherokee over the weekend, and Wednesday, 53 year-old William Cornwell was laid to rest. Family and friends gathered for his funeral at Rock Hill Baptist Church, where he used to preach.
Cornwell was killed when a tree fell on his pick-up truck while driving home. Tribal safety leaders say he was trapped and had to be extricated, but died later. Family members urge others not to go out during dangerous weather.
They are mourning Cornwell's loss, but say faith is giving them strength. "He's our brother, her husband. We're going to miss him dearly here. But he's with our Lord and that gives us comfort," says Will Cornwell's sister, Elizabeth Edwards.
For his wife of 13 years, it's a hard time. Charlene Cornwell wears their wedding rings around her neck rejoicing in his life, and remaining committed in the belief that she'll see him again. "I know where he is. I know. I don't have any doubt," she says.
Cornwell was buried in Birdtown Cemetery, not far from Rock Hill Baptist Church.
