Animal Shelter Facility Protest
Protestors gathered at the Rutherford Animal Control Facility demanding more improvements for animals there.
The protest comes after a community meeting on the shelter last week. Some residents have said that animals are living in dirty conditions.
They say the goal is to raise awareness about conditions at the shelter and to get the community involved in adopting out animals.
Lauren Billings, animal shelter reform, "we need to make improvements at the existing shelter that we have, including making sure that it is being properly cleaned to prevent parvo outbreaks. We need to make sure that we're adhering to the animal welfare act and following proper euthanasia procedures."
News 13 spoke to Lieutenant Leon Godlock with the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office by phone today. He says they are required to clean the facility twice a day and, to his knowledge, there have been no recent outbreaks or cases of parvo.
