Tickets for Heroes

Some hometown heroes are about to make it to the N.F.L.

The Carolina Panthers have provided 50 tickets for the homeless at the ABCCM Veterans Restoration Quarters. The seats for the preseason game against the Bills next Friday are typically about $60 each.

In the past, the Vets have gone to Tourists games and out on fishing trips together. Volunteer Ed Gore says the outings mean a lot to the men. "And this gives them a chance to do something normal people would do, go to a ball game. So that's what this means to them, they get to get out of here and do something besides sit here on campus all weekend," he says.

Young Transportation is providing the bus travel for the trip. So far, about 80 men have signed up for the 50 tickets. Gore says he'll have to draw names out of a hat to decide who goes.
