Charges Upgraded in Fatal Pedestrian Wreck

Charges have been upgraded on the driver of the vehicle involved in the Kimberly Avenue pedestrian fatality on July 13, 2014. 

After final completion of the investigation and additional consultation with the Buncombe County District Attorney's Office, 29-year-old Maximilian Alexander of Asheville, has been charged with Involuntary Manslaughter. The collision resulted in the death of 66-year-old, Virginia Senechal, of Asheville.

Data was retrieved from the vehicle's onboard computer during the investigation by the Asheville Police Department's Traffic Safety Unit. The original travel speed of the vehicle operated by Alexander was 65 miles per hour before he lost control. The speed at impact with Senechal was estimated to be 45 miles per hour. The posted speed limit for Kimberly Avenue is 25 miles per hour.

Alexander turned himself in to the Buncombe County Detention Facility on August 14th and was released on a written promise to appear.
