Sylva Fire Update
An update now on a fire-damaged building in Sylva, the historic structure destroyed by a weekend fire will not have to be demolished.
Own leaders originally thought the downtown building, that was home to four businesses, would have to be torn down but engineers say it can remain standing.
Mayor Maurice Moody, "the report is that the walls are sound, pause, Sylva is back open for business."
Traffic is still being rerouted in the area, only one lane of Mill Street and one lane of Main Street are open.
Town leaders say all lanes can open once a fence is in place to protect people as clean-up gets underway.
