Deadly Car Wrecks
Wednesday's wreck makes a total of ten deadly crashes in the mountains since the beginning of August, including two just this week.
One wreck on Tuesday was in McDowell County when troopers say Jonathan Brown, 21, hit a railroad bridge on Highway 221. Highway Patrol says speed was a factor in that crash.
On Monday night, Asheville police say a drunk driver crashed into 37-year-old Joshua Calhoun, who was riding a motorcycle. The driver, John Allan Zabriskie, is charged with felony death by vehicle and DWI.
On Aug. 18 and 8, there were deadly wrecks in Cherokee County. Another fatal crash happened in Polk County on Aug. 13.
Rutherford County had two wrecks just days apart on the Aug. 9 and 11, and one killed a 15-year-old girl.
Troopers say drunken driving also led to a deadly crash in the Pisgah National forest in Transylvania County on Aug. 3. That's also the day a man was hit and killed in Henderson County.
And on Aug. 1, a woman was killed after a car flipped in Madison County. Troopers also suspected alcohol and speed were factors in that crash as well.
