Tea Party Launches Gun Giveaway
The Asheville Tea Party has launched it's third Great Gun Giveaway.
The drawing will be held October 12 at the WNC Agricultural Center's Asheville Knife and Gun Show, but raffle tickets can be purchased online in advance.
Randy's Guns in Marshall has donated a customized semi-automatic assault rifle and another area store has put up a handgun.
"We brainstormed it and thought this would be a good idea," said Asheville Tea Party head Jane Bilello. "It forces the conversation so we can get rid of some of these oppressive gun control laws."
The money raised will go towards ads and campaign materials for area Tea Party politicians up for election this fall.
Some area democrats say that linking firearms to political campaigns in such a direct way is a distraction from major issues impacting the mountains.
