Moped Law Passed in NC
A new law in North Carolina now requires all mopeds be registered with the state.
Governor Pat McCrory signed the bill this week. It means scooters will have to be registered and tagged, just like any car or motorcycle.
One local dealer says before the law was passed, there was little regulation. He doesn't think the new law requirements will deter people from buying mopeds. "The riders of most mopeds or scooters are those who are non-licensed drivers, who have lost their license or have never been licensed, but still need transportation to go to work to support their families," says Tony Controne with MR Motorcycle.
Right now, you don't need insurance but lawmakers are studying whether that requirement should be added eventually.
