6 Break-Ins On 1 Street
Six cars were broken into off of Coffey Circle Road, in a quiet neighborhood near The Biltmore Square Mall, early Tuesday morning.
Officials believe one or more suspects walked through the neighborhood trying car doors, and robbing any vehicle that had been left unlocked. Items stolen includ iPads, iPods, chargers, GPS units, cash and cell phones.
Buncombe County Sheriff Van Duncan said Tuesday that there's been an uptick in car break-ins over the last six to eight months, and in about 80 percent of incidents, the cars targeted have been left unlocked.
Duncan said that spates of break-ins, in which five or six cars are hit in one area in one night have become more common.
Deputies cracked down hard on home break-ins, which are down by about a quarter from this time last year, but there's concern that the same suspects that officials were seeing in those crimes have now switched gears.
