Carolina Brotherhood Ride
Local firefighters and police officers are getting ready to bicycle hundreds of miles to honor those who died in the line of duty last year.
The third annual Carolina Brotherhood Ride begins next Tuesday in Raleigh. Riders will bicycle nearly 500 miles to Charleston, South Carolina to raise money for the families of fallen first responders.
While the reason for the ride is serious, there appears to be some friendly competition between the firefighters and police officers who are participating.
"We have 30 (riders). That's tentative. Some of the police officers might fall off, so we might finish with a little bit less than that," says Mark Jameson with Asheville Fire Department.
Asheville Police Officer Robert Bingaman will be one of the fallen officers honored. He died in a car accident while on patrol last year.
